Darryl Solberg, attorney
Having been the author’s attorney for over 30 years and involved in many of the deals that Dale Marquardt describes in great detail in his book, The Thrill of the Deal, there are a number of truly interesting background stories that give me greater insight into how Dale was able to put his deals together. What initially surprised me is the detailed conversations that he wrote about, some going back decades. I originally thought the conversations were likely written from notes he had for each of the deals. But when I asked him if he created the dialogs, he said he did not. He said he had actual memory and recall of the exact conversations even going back many years. Because that is so unusual, I think it is possible that Dale has hyperthymesia. The detailed dialog gives context to the negotiations that provides a huge benefit in giving the reader i) the detailed conversations which provide context in how Dale put his deals together, and ii) the focus he showed in pursuing his real estate projects as a serious entrepreneur. What Dale’s stories illustrate are actual negotiations and strategies used in achieving his business goals, which in turn give insight into deal making that could apply to anyone who dreams of pursuing an entrepreneurial career path.

Dale. I loved your book. It should be in the library of every high school and college in America. It would help the young guys get started.
